Freezeout Lake | Snow Goose Migration

The Spring Snow Goose Migration, in Choteau, MT, is one of the most spectacular displays of wildlife I have seen. It’s a literal wild goose chase. I loved it.

This was one of those times that I spontaneously hopped in the car, without much investigation, and went. I got mildly lost, found the Gallatin grain tower by accident, and was pleasantly surprised to see oak trees.

This yearly pilgrimage is paradise for conservationists, environmentalists, and self proclaimed bird nerds. I met several new people that showed me the ropes and undoubtedly enhanced my experience tenfold.

As always, when visiting anywhere new, bring plenty of food and water, sunscreen, be prepared for weather, and expect to be up and in action before dawn.
